Who We Are

About GLC

Great Lakes Church is a non-denominational, evangelical, charismatic congregation in Duluth, Minnesota. Our culture is characterized by the love & presence of God, freedom in worship & prayer, repentance, revival, pursuit of the spiritual gifts, and honoring each other and our city. To put it simply — we love & follow Jesus.

We are open to every person regardless of where you are in your faith journey with Jesus. Come as you are, and experience the presence, love and grace of our good God!

OUR MISSION

At GLC, we strive to be a loving community of Jesus-followers joined together to pursue a relationship with God. We are people in process of working out our faith (not perfect), but seek to humble ourselves and allow God by His grace to change us to be more like Him and be a beacon of hope to the world. This hope in question is the Gospel (or good news) of Jesus Christ. We seek to share this message with our lost and dying world both with our words and actions.

“There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” - Acts 4:12 (NLT)

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is inspired, infallible, accurate, authoritative and applicable to our daily lives. It reveals the character of God and points us to Jesus.

We believe that there is only one true God who is the eternal King, Creator, and Redeemer of all things. He is perfectly holy, just, loving, and truthful. He has revealed Himself to exist in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that humanity was created in the image of God to know and enjoy Him, yet we willingly rejected Him. As a result, sin and death entered the world, and consequently we are separated from God and His purpose for our lives.

We believe that God, in his unfailing love, made a plan to correct that mistake and make us right with Him. God sent His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to earth. Conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary, Jesus is both God and man. He lived a sinless life, was crucified and died on the cross in our place for our sins, was buried, resurrected, and ascended into heaven to demonstrate His victory over death so that we may have eternal life.

We believe that we are made right with God when we become ‘born again.’ In order to receive forgiveness and the ‘new birth’ we must confess and turn from our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and surrender to His lordship. As a result the Holy Spirit adopts us into God’s family. We receive a new heart, new nature, and the Holy Spirit takes residency inside us. Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or human effort.

We believe that the Church consists of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. Putting their old lives behind them, the Church exists to carry on the ministry of Jesus and further advance His ‘kingdom’ by preaching and living the good news of God’s love and forgiveness, and to disciple nations — water baptizing and teaching them to love and obey God.

We believe in the ongoing, sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy and fruitful life.

We believe we need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit in order to have God’s power to be His witnesses and minister supernaturally.

We believe in the continued and present operation of the Five-Fold Ministry Gifts to the church: Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher (Eph 4:11) to equip the Church for the work of the ministry.

We believe that earth is not our eternal home, and that hell and heaven are real places. There will be a resurrection of the lost and the saved, the former to everlasting death in hell and the latter to everlasting life in heaven.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again for His Church in all His glory and power as He promised.

Core Values

God is good.

God is so good, and He wants a relationship with us.

Jesus is the answer.

Jesus is the way back to God and to have our our sins forgiven. In Him alone we have eternal life and where our identity is found.

We have purpose.

Jesus gives us purpose to live life on earth while we wait for our eternal home. He helps us realize life is about Him, not us. And that we exist to know and reveal Him. To love and set people free.

All things are possible.

Jesus is alive in the believer, so a huge part of life is taking risk knowing He is with us and nothing is impossible for Him.
