A Unique Calling.

Our very own John & Sandy Halvorsen know what it’s like to walk by faith — literally! Local Duluthians most of their lives, and with various stints in local church ministry in Wisconsin, Europe, and Minnesota (including this church), John and Sandy have been called by God to do some rather unorthodox things.

After church planting in Europe for the better part of the 1990’s, God called the Halvorsen’s in 1998 to walk across America from north to south and west to east. They sensed God saying there is a change in season coming, and that there are tumultuous times ahead, and that people need to turn from their sins back to God.

Upon completing that assignment, John and Sandy were privileged to pastor Great Lakes Church for many years until 2008 when God called them to walk again, this time from Portugal to China! The message of that trip was God wants His world back, and that God would break through in areas previously hostile towards the Gospel.

After Prayer Walk Eurasia, John and Sandy again pastored Great Lakes Church until 2018 when again they were called to more prayer walks across America. One was from LA to NYC and the other was from Miami to Seattle. The prophetic focuses of those trips were one in the same: crying out to God for awakening for America.

In recent years, John’s calling got even stranger when God sent him to the North and South Pole. These two trips were similar to his previous adventures in the sense that they were prophetic acts. At each pole, John unraveled the Appeal to Heaven flag and prayed that God would get the glory in the earth that He duly deserves. Through this experience, John believes the Lord is saying the Gospel is about to reach every tribe, tongue and nation, thus bringing an end to the age of the Gentiles, and everything God has been doing through their prayer walks will culminate (in God’s perfect timing) with the salvation of Israel (Romans 11).

A New Adventure.

In 2024, God is sending John and Sandy out again, this time by water (for the second time)! Read their vision statement here. Their sense is that God wants to cover the earth with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord just as the waters cover the sea (Hab 2:14).
